KIMAYA
The Mehtab Bagh, is the garden across the Yamuna looking at the Taj Mahal.
The week of the competition, and frantic work at the studio. An elderly gentlemen walks into the studio. Our studio then was off the main road and we were used to people mistaking us for different spaces – a coffee shop etc or just walking in to ask directions. The gentleman was an architect and had visited SKOPIA , and reading our name and address on it landed up at our office to discuss the design.
During the discussion, he brought up his professor who he had studied under in architecture school. His professor was obsessed and studied the Taj Mahal. He had written a book and poems on the Taj. The name of the book was “Kimaya”. It was the perfect love story. The story of the Taj.
The chance encounter with the gentleman was the inspiration and we built our design on the “love story of the Taj”. The design won a commendation and cash award.
The Taj Mahal is often referred to as the symbol of love. The design intervention needed to aim at propagating the message of love through the language of art and architecture.
Kimaya – Is a story of what the Mehtab Bagh can be and how its story is all intertwined with the Taj, and each are inseparable as love story’s should be .
