An Oasis built over 5 months , in the outskirts of Bangalore. As designers of the architecture and interiors, we were presented with a very clear and straightforward brief. Desing was used as a tool. The Office was designed was a unified thought with planning, architecture, interiors structure, landscape and services, so that the building could come together in 5 months.
The Prefabricated built space was a multi – bay vaulted structure with a tensile roof. For a marketing office, where the user experience had to be paid close attention to. The design aimed to create an unconventional experience for the user by seamlessly integrating the built structure with the surrounding unbuilt space, using light and landscape as a guiding and accentuating elements.
Typically, transitions from exterior to interior spaces are abrupt, but in this case, the transition is gradual. This design allows users to become attuned to the light and landscape before experiencing the soft glow of the vaulted tensile roof. The user experiences the space and environment from the time they exit their vehicles.
This was achieved through a transitional space featuring a chequered bamboo pergola interspaced with landscape running the length of the structure, covering a lush green area to evoke the feel of an oasis. Creating a scale of reference ,the user feels warm welcome and comfortable in.
Upon entering, the oasis welcomes visitors with seating areas accentuated by the pergola’s dramatic shifting shadow patterns, creating a dynamic and vibrant atmosphere. The green surroundings and the soothing presence of a nearby water body are elements stringing together an experience that is nothing short of an oasis.
The prefab tensile roof was used as an advantage. Exposing it for the soft glow of filtered light in the day. The ceiling is exposed with a single central AC duct and minimal focus .The central duct is also designed to house a custom made linear lighting. Inspired by Luis Khans drawings of the Kimble.
While in the day the tensile glows with sunlight, taking advantage of the form and the colour of the tensile roof, in the night the roof glows . The user is unaware of the location of the light sources.
Inside, the walls greet visitors with natural textured tones of beige and brown, highlighting the temporal quality of the space. Accents of wood and jute in the furniture and custom-made lights break the linearity of the prefabricated structure, imparting a unique and earthy character to it. Overall, the design, both on the inside and out, presents a clean form that guides visitors through the space seamlessly.
It demonstrates a strategic use of natural elements and careful planning. By prioritizing the user experience and the environment, the project successfully meets its brief and delivers a serene, and inviting oasis.
