House of Lines & Courts

The clients were moving back from California to Bangalore.

Our intention was to look for synergies between the life and architecture in California and India, and design a house that was truly contemporary juxtaposed with traditional planning and values.

The design is a play of Courtyards and Lines. The Courtyards and the planning is inspired from the traditional Indian Haveli, and the Lines and the transparency inspired from the Mid Century Modern Architects of California like, Richard Neutra and Donald Wexler.

The synergy of the Courtyard with the Modern Lines works perfectly, as the intersecting courtyards create interesting spaces and shaded terraces. The plays of the large cantilevers in the house, shade, and create ventilators between the roofs for east light to filter in.
