The Permit Room

We inherited a space that was a retail building, designed for selling merchandise. A three level glass box, with a great location and frontage.

We needed to convert that to a bar, a space where people felt comfortable , levels that spoke to each other and most of all a space that didn’t reveal itself at the door.

An architectural space which would merge with the interior design required for a bar. It required us to look at the micro detail in the interiors – to the street perspective – making the bar inviting for a passerby.

Metaphorically we had to carve into the Glass Box

We opened the facade by creating a series of outdoor experiences – that brought back the Bangalore of Old. The three level glass facade was broke down, while adding an outdoor active element of being on the street. Layers of screens were added with the green walls, both for privacy, as well as to incorporate a feeling of warmth in the space.

Among the glass facades that surround it, it was important that a two storey green wall spoke loudly.
